Company News >> Strong demand for terminal applications AMOLED panel battle officially started 31th,Oct,2018
Like the mature TFT LCD display panel, the AMOLED display panel brings great development opportunities to various panel manufacturers around the world. Regarding whether AMOLED will become the standard equipment of smart phone panels, and even gradually replace LCD panels, 2017 will be a crucial development moment as Apple announces that it will adopt AMOLED.

Since the media pipeline of many homes, Apple's 2017 iPhone series smart phone new models will have the opportunity to use active organic OLED (AMOLED) panels, which will cause the global panel industry. Not a small topic.

Since then, South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan's panel makers have set up small and medium-sized AMOLED panel production lines, whether they are publicly or privately stated. Of course, South Korea's Samsung Display (SDC) is the most powerful, and Lejin Display (LGD) has also begun. action. And Chinese panel makers are more eager for the country's huge funds, madly cast AMOLED panel production line. Japanese factory display (JDI) licenses other manufacturers to manufacture or manufacture for them. The Taiwanese factory led by Sharp, a subsidiary of Hon Hai. Since then, the AMOLED panel mass production projects of various panel factories around the world have been on the table one by one, and the battle for the Central Plains has officially begun.

Han factory still accounts for 90% of the market, the Chinese factory is catching up

AMOLED panels have many advantages over TFT LCD panels such as color, contrast, brightness, viewing angle, thickness, reaction time, and the like. Therefore, more and more terminal display devices, such as smart phones, have begun to be changed from TFT LCD panels to AMOLED panels. Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of TFT LCD panel and AMOLED panel factory, as shown in Figure 1.

The demand for terminal applications is exploding.

According to the IHS survey of the market research organization, in the July-September 2016, the global small and medium-sized AMOLED panel shipments exceeded 100 million. Among them, South Korea's Samsung monitors shipped nearly 100 million pieces, accounting for more than 90% of the market. For the first time, Chinese panel makers shipped more than 1 million units, mainly based on Tianma Microelectronics, Hehui Optoelectronics and Kunshan Guoxian. It must be mentioned here that Taiwan’s AU Optronics (AUO) has already started producing small and medium-sized AMOLED panels as early as 2006. And AU Optronics is the earliest small and medium-sized AMOLED panel produced by it, which is placed on the S88 mobile phone of BenQ Siemens, the mobile phone model of BenQ AUO Group's own brand BenQ.

However, it is a pity that BenQ's mobile phone has not been sold with the blessing of AMOLED panels. However, after the merger of BenQ and Siemens (Siemens) mobile phones, it has caused many problems, and therefore, in the situation of subsequent weakness, friends Dian Optoelectronics has not invested heavily in AMOLED panels, and the subsequent development of AMOLED panels has continued to maintain a steady development to date, and can only be supplied to specific markets in relatively small quantities.

So far, Taiwan panel makers have not only wolves (South Korean manufacturers) but also tigers (Chinese manufacturers) in the development of AMOLED panels. The situation is very worrying and regrettable.

Samsung Electronics came to the forefront and equipped AMOLED panels on smartphones to carry forward the features of AMOLED panels.

Since 2010, Samsung's own high-end brand Galaxy S series smart phones have been equipped with homemade AMOLED panels, and have more than 7 years of market experience. It is estimated that Apple has finally seriously considered that after launching the iPhone with AMOLED panel in 2017, it will set off a global AMOLED panel boom.

At present, only a Samsung Display (SDC) manufacturer that can supply a large number of small and medium-sized AMOLED panels in the world has a market share of more than 95%, and has almost monopolized the entire AMOLED panel market. Samsung Display (SDC) is investing about 8 trillion won (about 6.5 billion US dollars) in response to upcoming orders. In addition to continuing to increase the production of the A3 line at the Asan Plant, according to the UDC material manufacturer UDC, it is estimated that the A3 line will have a monthly production of 120,000 pieces in 2017. The L7 line of the Tangjing Factory, which previously produced a LCD TV panel jointly with Nissan New Sony (Sony), also moved out of the LCD production equipment to empty the factory space to replace the 6th generation AMOLED production line equipment for mass production.
