Company News >> New Mini LED Vehicle: A New Blue Ocean of 40 Billion US Dollars 28th,July,2021
The adoption of Mini LEDs in Apple iPad Pro has not yet formed a climate, and Mini LEDs in vehicles may suddenly emerge.

On the evening of July 14, Longli Technology issued an announcement stating that after review, the company, controlling shareholders, and actual controllers did not have any major issues related to the company that should be disclosed but not disclosed, nor were there major issues in the planning stage. In the previous three trading days, the stock price has risen by 40.6%, and as of the close of July 20, the stock price of Longli Technology has nearly doubled in the past ten trading days.

Public information shows that Longli Technology is mainly engaged in the research and development, production and sales of backlight display modules. Its customers are mainly LCD module companies such as BOE, TCL Technology, Shenzhen Tianma, and Dijing Optoelectronics.

On July 16, Longli Technology stated in an investor interactive survey that at present, Longli Technology has achieved a breakthrough in the research and development of Mini LED backlight technology in the field of automotive innovation, and has achieved some small batches of delivery.

In the context of the overall panel industry being suppressed by the market, such a ferocious rise of Longli Technology is extremely conspicuous. It should be noted that the company is still at a loss in the first half of 2021.

However, the keen sense of the capital market has already noticed opportunities in the on-board display market.

Mini LED car new machine

In 2019, TCL released the world's first Mini LED TV, taking the lead in completing the exploration of Mini LED technology.

Mini LED can still be regarded as a kind of LCD. However, Mini LED starts from the backlight module and reduces the size of the adjacent lamp beads of the light-emitting die. The spacing is usually between 100 microns and 200 microns. This backlight divided by pixels allows Mini LED to achieve a self-luminous effect similar to OLED.

The first-mover advantage allows TCL to take the lead in the Mini LED field. In 2020, TCL Mini LED TV has a global market share of over 90%, but the application scenarios of Mini LED technology are still limited to the TV field, and can only be regarded as a niche market.

It was not until the entry of the consumer electronics giant Apple that the Mini LED technology officially "out of the circle."

In April of this year, the new iPad Pro 12.9-inch version released by Apple became the world's first tablet computer equipped with a Mini LED backlight panel. Subsequently, the industry chain confirmed that Apple will be equipped with Mini LED screens on this year's new Macbook Pro series notebook computers.

This series of actions quickly ignited the IT industry, and many manufacturers including Samsung and Huawei have reported that they will launch Mini LED tablet computers.

But so far, apart from Apple, no one has made it clear that it will introduce Mini LED technology into its IT product line.

On the one hand, as an emerging industry, the production capacity of Mini LED panels cannot be fully guaranteed.

Earlier there was news that Apple was looking for suppliers other than Taiwanese manufacturers to assist in the production of Mini LED panels, and the current demand far exceeds the supplier's supply capacity.

On the other hand, although Mini LED technology has excellent display effects, compared with OLED panels, its thickness has also increased due to the existence of backlight modules. For terminal manufacturers, in order to ensure the portability of mobile IT products, The adjustment of its thickness is often calculated at the level of 0.1mm, coupled with the relatively expensive price, so that most consumer electronics manufacturers are cautious.

However, people soon discovered that the "Mini LED first year" brought by Apple has unintentionally ignited the car display market.

The new blue ocean of the 40 billion USD industry

With the rapid development of autonomous driving technology in recent years, the central control display has become the core interaction point of the vehicle, and the driver can almost complete all operations except the vehicle through a display. However, such an important system is always in a more awkward position.

From the consumer perspective, according to omdia statistics, global automotive display shipments will reach 127 million in 2020, and this number is expected to jump to 148 million this year, of which TFT-LCD panels account for the most. most.

The shortcomings of LCD panels are obvious. Due to the low contrast, even if the LCD turns off all the images for full black display, the light leaked by its backlight is still higher than the brightness in the car at night, and it replaces the traditional dashboard in a large area today. , LCD panel can easily cause visual fatigue of the driver.

In contrast, OLED panels have strong plasticity and can cater to avant-garde concepts such as surround cockpits and immersive cockpits. The self-luminous feature can also reduce the impact of light generated by the display. However, the reliability of OLED panels in low temperature and high temperature environments Has been criticized all the time. Mini LED technology can almost perfectly solve the above problems. It has strong reliability, high degree of customization, and good ductility. At the same time, the high contrast also eliminates the interference of light to the driver. More importantly, it troubles the thickness of IT products. The problem is not a problem at all for in-vehicle displays.
